The Joshua Tree National Park Art Expo, held annually at the historic 29 Palms Art Gallery, presents a juried exposition of art inspired by the Joshua Tree National Park. This year there were 122 submissions, and 60 artists from around the world were selected to join into the juried art show. Among them were pieces of artwork of all types- from sculpture to painting to photography. The show is categorized into 3 sections for award purposes- 3-dimensional, 2-dimensional, and photography. Each category is awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons and the top award of the night is the "Best of Show" award going to the most exceptional piece of all the categories combined. This year, Kacy Dalton was awarded the "Best of Show" title for her beautiful mosaic guitar piece titled "Songs of the Desert". This guitar showcases mosaiced elements inspired by the national park including the phases of the moon, Joshua Trees, a coyote howling, the sunset in the background and even incorporates cholla cactus as a natural material used along the fret board. This piece of artwork is on display at the 29 Palms Art Gallery through the end of November and is also for sale. To read the media release about the event and its winners, follow this link.
